“I’d like to buy a vowel.”

“That’ll be 20 cents.”

“How much for a consonant?”

“They’re just 20 cents, too.”

Wonder Cat marked the sixth round of The Atlanta Alleycat Series and The Second Anniversary of Wonder Root. The five dollar entry fee was a bargain, if you took into consideration that for the 5 bucks you got 25, that’s right, twenty five, check points. That comes to only 20 cents a stop. The look on the 33 racers’ faces when they first were handed the manifest was priceless. “What the fuck?” was more than one rider’s initial response. Luckily, the manifests were handed out up to an hour in advance of the start. So why was it necessary to have so many checks? Each check revealed a letter of the alphabet, which, in turn, provided a letter in a word scramble. The correct answer to this word scramble would determine the winner of the event/scavenger hunt. Angel Proventud drew a crowd around him as he plotted his route. His vast knowledge of Atlanta and its art allowed him to figure out an ideal course of attack. Only two riders, Howard Buckley and Michael Satusky, had the forethought to take advantage of Angel’s expertise and ride with him. Once again, however, Angel was struck with bad luck, and he flatted. In a very unselfish gesture, he sent his comrades on to win without himself.

Stewart Haddock of Race Riot! was the first rider to the finish at Wonder Root. However, Haddock had not figured out the word scramble. In fact, only three brainiacs got it. Buckley, Satusky, and Pamela Overman were therefore awarded the top three spots. “This is my first win!” proclaimed an excited Buckley. “I’m happy. I loved the event! It was a lot of fun; it was Angel’s route,” continued Buckley. Satusky admitted, “I fucked up one of the letters, so I’m glad Howard came out on top.” Overman commented, “That was a weird Alleycat, super chaotic.” Of note, the top three all rode fixed. Haddock earned a well deserved 4^th Overall for his super fast ride. Chris Schwartz guided four of our visiting Western neighbors, Rebecca Banton, Chuckie Fuoco, Natalie Lamb, and Nathan Hutchinson, who make up Birmingham Boob Sweat. Impressively, they all stuck together and tied for fifth. Very well done! “Interesting format with so many check points,” said Mike Woz. He was the ONLY rider in the top 10 of The Series to score any points at this round. 2010 Gambler Winner, Bob “thatsnogood” Donlan, tied with Woz for tenth. D.F.L. went to Jen Undutch. She took home the traditional bag of coffee along with a, “Wake up and ride your bike!”
